Job Description
headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12 to 25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting the wellbeing of young people.
Health Voyage, as lead agency for headspace Grafton, has a vacancy for a passionate Peer Support Worker or Senior Peer Support Worker. This is an identified role for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. The position is full time, 38 hours per week, and is available for immediate start.
We are open to applicants at different stages of their peer work career. Applicants with demonstrated leadership experience, group facilitation skills or experience in youth advocacy may be considered for a Senior Peer Support Worker position. Applicants newer to peer work who are passionate about youth mental health and recovery support are strongly encouraged to apply for a Peer Support Worker role.
The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the clinical and community engagement teams to provide safe, strengths based and recovery focused support to young people accessing headspace Grafton services.
About the role:
This is an identified role for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
Provide one on one peer support and mentoring to young people accessing the service
Use lived experience appropriately to promote hope, recovery and connection
Support young people to build confidence, self-pride and emotional wellbeing
Assist young people in navigating referrals and accessing appropriate services
Support or facilitate youth groups, workshops or community engagement activities
Work collaboratively with clinical staff and external services to support positive outcomes for young people
Supporting youth reference groups and representing youth voice in service planning and community forums
Depending on experience, opportunities may include mentoring junior peer workers,
About You:
We are looking for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person who is passionate about supporting young people and understands the value of lived experience in recovery focused mental health care.
You will be someone who can build positive relationships, communicate openly and safely, maintain appropriate boundaries and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Applicants with formal peer work qualifications, youth work experience, community services experience or experience facilitating groups will be highly regarded, however applicants earlier in their career are also encouraged to apply.

Commitment to self-care, reflective practice and ongoing learning
Experience working with young people, mental health, peer work or community services is highly regarded

• Ability to obtain a National Criminal Record Check
• Eligibility to work in Australia
• Willingness to occasionally work flexible hours, including evenings or outreach activities where required
