Job Description

headspace Grafton has a vacancy for a dedicated Youth & Family Engagement Officer to work full-time (38 hrs/week) with immediate availability!  This new position will provide services and support on discrete projects to assist with the promotion of, and support the delivery of, the services of headspace Grafton and help young people aged 12 to 25 seek and gain early access to health and other services. The position is funded to 30/06/25 and possibly beyond this date subject to and conditional upon ongoing government funding.

About the role:

The Youth & Family Engagement Officer will work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure the centre provides youth-focused services to young people. They will design, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate specific events for target groups to enhance the profile of headspace Grafton and convey essential messages such as mental health literacy, stigma reduction, anti-discrimination, and the importance of seeking help early. This exciting new and diverse role will also see you:

  • Maintain the service's webpages and social media channels, leveraging social media to create opportunities for youth and family engagement, as well as service promotion, in accordance with Health Voyage's social media policy. Deliver reports on social media engagement.
  • Recruit, train, supervise and support young people aged 12-25 to be involved in the headspace centre Youth Reference Group and develop further mechanisms to engage young people with the work of headspace.
  • Produce documents and promotional material of a professional standard that comply with branding policy (both Health Voyage and headspace National, suitable for external communication to a variety of target audiences.
  • Assist in the planning, development and delivery of community-based help seeking and mental health literacy education sessions, particularly designed for schools.

Desired Skills and Experience

What you will need to apply:

Our preferred candidate will possess significant expertise and experience in community engagement and youth advocacy as a seasoned professional. To be considered for this role you will need to have:    

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or experience in community development, health promotion, public health, social sciences, or education
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people with mental health, alcohol and other drug, and other social issues, and their families.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and facilitating youth and family programs, events and activities within a community setting, and within an allocated budget.
  • Experience and expertise with using social media platforms as a communication tool

You should also possess exceptional interpersonal skills, capable of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with a diverse array of individuals and professionals. They should also have advanced verbal and written communication abilities, along with proficient computer skills, including expertise in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
